RED SQUIRREL
Dorset Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve on Brownsea Island (National Trust)
February 22nd 2019
The Red Squirrel has very few strongholds in England now, but the two Islands, the Isle of Wight and Brownsea Island both have good populations, and take stringent measures to prevent the more dominant Grey Squirrel appearing on the Islands.
Brownsea Island has a population of between 200 and 250 animals, the best ttime to see them is in the autumn when they are stock ing up on nuts, and spring when they start to emerge for the Summer. This February visit was lucky to have a fair number of Squirrels about to be photographed.
