MALLARD
Slimbridge WWT 14th February 2019
The Mallard is the common duck familiar to all from the local park, river, stream or lake, and often sadly overlooked when photographing birds, wch is a shame as the drake is a handsome duck and the duck duller colours but beautifully marked.
The resident population is swollen in winter by migrants coming in from Iceland and Northern Europe
They normally dabble in shallow freshwater for vegetation, insects, molluscs and crustaceans and often forage in fields
