Black Headed Gull, Brownsea Island; 22nd February 2019

BLACK HEADED GULL

Brownsea Island 22nd Febraury 2019

The funny thing about the Black Headed Gull is that it doesn't have a black head. In summer the head has a chocolate brown cap, in winter it is white with two dark patches looking like ears. If a gull has a black head it is more likely to be a Mediterranean Gull

During this visit in February the gulls were in different stages of developing their summer plumage... some had a full chocolate brown cap, others still had a white head... but most were someway between the two extremes.
This set has a couple of images og the gull at rest, but concentrates mainly on flight shots
