Brownsea Island, DWT/NT; 22nd February 2019

BROWNSEA ISLAND

Dorset Wildlife Trust, Brownsea Island, February 22nd 2019

Probably my favourite reserve in the country....

The nature reserve is an artificially enclosed lagoon on the eastern end on the Island, in Poole Harbour. It is an important refuge for countless waders, ducks and geese and a has a specially protected breeding area for Sandwich Terns, which return for a few summer months to breed.

You never know what you will find in the lagoon, or in the reed beds, marshes and woods behind the lagoon. The island is a reserve for the native Red Squirrel, with a population thought to be around 250.
