Pintail, Slimbridge WWT 14th February 2019

PINTAIL

Slimbridge WWT 14th February 2019

Previously I only had a couple of shots of fairly distant Pintail, so seeing the website referred to "many Pintail close to the hide" was the thing that inspired me to get up early to visit... and indeed there were dozens of them in the lagoon and on the grass around by the hide.

They gradually drifted out to the estuary and meadows to feed during the morning, but it was wonderful to see them coming back in large numbers towards teatime...

Finally seeing them close to they are clearly a lovely and very distinctive duck,

They are mainly a winter visitor, though some do stay throughout the year and breed here.
