Red Squirrel on Brownsaea Island 1st June 2018

Red Squirrel on Brownsea Island

The Red Squirrel is the original native squirrel of the British Isles but is now concentrated in a very few areas, having been overrun by the Grey Squirrel.

One of the strongholds is Brownsea Island, where there is a resident population of around 200 Red Squirrel.

They roam over the whole of the Island but the best chances of seeing one are around the Nature Reserve, especially on the feeders near the Visitor Centre, or in the woods behind the Church
