POCHARD

Alonf with the Whooper Swan, the Pochard is probably the most common species at the reserve, numbering in the thousands... unusually there there are some females as well as the more spectacular males... the two genders usually winter apart, the males in the UK, the females further south in Spain.
Although the genders are very similar, they are easily distinguished because of the bright red head and bolder body colours of the male.
