Cragside is a Victorian country house originally built by William Armstrong, an inventor business man who invented the Armstrong Gun and Hydraulic Crane. The house was the first in the world to be lit by hydro-electric power. He also constructed dams, lakes and hydraulic machinery to power a saw mill, water powered laundry, early dishwasher, dumb waiter, hydraulic lift and rotisserie.
